Some interesting and fun facts about the Month of AUGUST:
The month of August was named to honor the first Roman emperor (and grandnephew of Julius Caesar), Augustus Caesar (63 B.C..–A.D. 14).
As noted below in more detail, August was once known as the 6th month of the year. In the Roman calendar, August was known as “Sextilis”, the Latin word for 6. Around 700 BC the Months of January and February were added to the calendar and August was bumped down to become the 8th month of the year.
August is for holidays and vacations. For example if you’re traveling in Europe and to Cities such as Rome or Paris you will notice that mostly everyone around you are fellow tourists. In America, it is also well known as vacation time as it is the middle of summer and traditionally the month before most children go back to school around the end of the month or early September.
Whatever you are doing for the month of August please make the most of it and travel safely!
