FINANCIALLY FOCUSED

November 2020 Newsletter

When we take a look at 2020, it’s easy to list a lot of negatives, one after another. But what if we look for the good stuff that happened as well? Sometimes, it’s hard to remember the good things because they slip in quietly and often go unnoticed. While the bad news announces itself loudly, instantly, and overwhelmingly. What if we paused to ask: what good has come to our life because of this year that we can be thankful for?

The team at Swenson Wealth Management has a lot to be thankful for. We are thankful for the additional time we’ve had to spend with our families. It’s so easy to get caught up in the shuffle of work, school, activities, travel, and everything else. It was nice to have the opportunity to slow down and make each other our refuge.

Travis - I am thankful for the time I was able to spend with the kids while we were quarantined and working from home. I went from running to meetings, practices, games...etc. to getting to sit down every night and have dinner as a family. I didn’t appreciate it at the time, but looking back now that our hectic schedules have resumed, it was something I will always cherish. Also, during that same time, I gained an even higher appreciation for, not only my wife, but for all teachers!

Mark shared that he has a new appreciation for his neighbors, coworkers, clients, family and friends. Mark has spent the last two months recovering from a serious case of West Nile. His recovery is going very well and he is gradually getting back to the office. He is so thankful for the many kind gestures of food, cards, encouraging phone calls, and help offered to him and Kathy. Of course, he is thankful for his wife, too.

Kathy – I am thankful for so many things: God’s love, family, the blessing of two new grandchildren in one year, and all the everyday things in life like my morning cup of coffee. I’m just thankful for everything, all of the blessings in my life.

Brady - I am thankful to have a healthy family and to work in a profession where I get to meet and serve people with all kinds of backgrounds.

Zach – There is always, always something to be thankful for. I am thankful for my healthy family, my energetic boys, wife, and the blessing of our third child, a baby girl, due to arrive during the upcoming holiday season.

Suzie - I am thankful for my family, our health, and most recently a new addition to our family. On October 17th, my son, Sam Seydel, married Abby. It was a beautiful wedding with family and friends together and we are happy to welcome Abby into our family.

Wendy - I am grateful for the relationships with friends and family in my life. I'm a very social person and talking to and spending time with those I love fills my cup. Nurturing relationships has looked very different this year for all of us. If there's someone you haven't talked to in a long time and would like to reconnect, I encourage you to pick up the phone, send a text or drop a note in the mail.

Makayla - I am so thankful for my supportive husband and my new baby boy. We are looking forward to the fun a baby is going to add to the holidays.

Wherever you go and whatever you do this Thanksgiving, we wish you the best. Being able to work with you is something we are all truly grateful for.

Warmly,
Your Swenson Wealth Management Team

Congratulations to Makayla Kontz on her beautiful, new baby boy! Makayla and her husband, Zachary, welcomed Tripp Douglas Kontz to their family on October 13, 2020. We know you will be great parents and love every single moment with him – even the sleepless nights and scary diapers. You deserve all of the happiness your new baby will bring. We are so happy for you. (Makayla is the New and existing Accounts Manager for Swenson Wealth Management. Tripp is Mark and Kathy Kontz’ s sixth grandchild.)

Common Retirement Vehicles You Should Know

When someone mentions retirement, one of the first things you may think about is savings.

And that’s with good reason, of course, because putting your savings to work for you is an important part of any retirement strategy. There are several ways you can do that, and you may have varying levels of knowledge about each — both individual retirement accounts (IRAs) and employer-sponsored plans.

Pedestrianism¹

Between quarantine and cold weather, we're all likely going a little stir crazy. Perhaps not as much as our ancestors once did though.

In the 19th century, competitive walking, or pedestrianism, was the most popular spectator sport in America. With spectator filled arenas, competitors walked around tracks almost nonstop from Mondays to Saturdays. Like modern sports, there were rivalries among the stars, who earned a fortune from the prize money and sponsorship deals. Pedestrianism was eventually replaced by competitive cycling after the invention of the safety bicycle by John Starley in 1885.
